EVAN CRICHTON but it’s musicians like him who are at the heart of what this site is all about.Unlike last week’s entries in The Pop Cop, you might not know much about
Our mission is to introduce you to great music with a Scottish flavour that you otherwise might not know about… and Evan’s way with a tune certainly deserves your ears.
In Glasgow-based bands such as the legendary Pariah he was happy to let others hog the limelight in years gone by, but he’s finally taking centre stage and about time too.
Two weeks ago he was personally asked by Biffy Clyro to support them at the Barras and Corn Exchange – obviously the Biffy boys had been listening to his quite wonderful debut record Bright Our Broken Days (Mister Tramp Records) on their tourbus. Comprising seven remarkably accomplished tracks, we’re not too sure if you’d describe it as a long EP or a mini-album, but here’s a taster in the shape of pop sizzler Version 2 – at barely over one and a half minutes long, it’s ideal for sticking on every mix CD you’ll ever make.
We can’t write about Evan without mentioning his appearance in last year’s top 50 Most Eligible Bachelors in Scotland list compiled by The Scotsman. If the judges had seen this picture below of Evan taken in his heyday, Gary Lightbody would have surely been knocked off the top spot…
