Staying out for the summer: Hydro Connect

Boutique (bōō-tēk’) n. A small business offering specialised products and services. So who wants tea in the park?

What’s it called? Hydro Connect.
Where’s it at? Inverary Castle, Inverary, Argyll.
When’s it kicking off? August 29-31.
Who are the headliners? Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Bloc Party, Paolo Nutini, Sigur Ros, Manic Street Preachers.
And the flatliners? Manic Street Preachers.
How do the organisers describe it? “DF Concerts have taken an enchanted castle, added some heather clad rolling hills, bespoke camping, sumptuous seafood, champagne, a touch of fairy dust plus heaped spoonfuls of some of the hottest talent from around the globe and bound it all together to create a unique boutique festival experience.”
What’s its pedigree? This is the 2nd year.
What’s the damage? £126.75 for the weekend (tickets), £147.50 including camping (tickets).
Most likely to be attended by: Those who know their lives will be infinitely better for witnessing Sigur Ros in majestic surroundings at their only Scottish date of the year.
Verdict: When Connect launched last year it had a line-up in keeping with its principles of being a festival of cool exclusivity. This time round we have the Manics and Kasabian, who we can’t really see quaffing the “sumptuous seafood”.
