Glasgow in June means West End Festival time, which dominates the month with a rack of culture from the opening weekend’s Mardi Gras Parade to performances of Shakespeare in the park to comedy nights, dance classes, exhibitions, organised walks and literature events, although sadly no open-air cinema, which was cancelled after the council refused to grant an alcohol licence at Kelvingrove Park. I can’t imagine why.
This year’s music line-up is a right treat if you like your tunes Scottish and guitar-based. And good. Among the highlights are performances from The Pop Cop favourites Endor (acoustic), White Heath’s album launch at the Electric Honey Records showcase, hotly-tipped Strawberry Ocean Sea on Sunday’s outdoor stage, The Fence Collective night headlined by Kid Canaveral, delightful East Kilbride teenager Gillian Christie, the enigma that is Beerjacket, Canadian acoustic troubadour Dan Mangan, the lovely Rachel Sermanni and her band hosted by Communion, catchy pop-rock from Pareto, and The Big BBQ Show all-day event featuring Washington Irving and PAWS among others.
